This weekend decided to take a break from 2–3 hour drives to/from NH. Maybe it had no choice because suddenly MA imposed restrictions on travel to NH 😫

With that decided to go to Hale Reservation, private non-profit woodland, including four ponds and over twenty miles of trails in Westwood and Dover, Massachusetts.

This land abounds early Indian and colonial history. The main road leading up to it Carby Street on early maps it was part of an Indian trail that led from a large Indian settlement in Dedham to Strawberry Hill near the Westwood-Dover line. Entrance to the reservation was $10 and it all goes to charity, hey why not support a good cause.

My goal today was to traverse ~ 7 miles and below is planned course:

I chose to traverse the following trails from the map above:

  • Strawberry Hill Trail (2.5 miles, yellow blazes): mostly wooded hills
  • Page & Sadie Trail (1.7 miles, red blazes): path around the Noanet Pond
  • Storrow Pond Trail (2.3 miles, blue blazes): wider trails with gentler inclines

Weather was overcast and it wasn't that busy, there were mountain bikers and people with dogs here and there:

Once finished decided to hit up Volante Farms in nearby Needham. Many posters on Chew on This Facebook Group spoke highly of it. Its your typical farmer grocer family operated for 4 generations since 1917.

One of the things they are most famous for is the cider donuts and they still sell them in November at 2 for $3 very tasty indeed!!

People often travel to their destinations to do a single thing like hike or run a race but often forget that there may be things around worth checking out
