I was staying with my family again in Southwestern CT and needed to get my trail running fix so checked AllTrails for next nearest option after the one I tried during my last trip. All signs were pointing for me to try something within the Paugussett State Forest. It consists of 2 blocks:
- 800-acre upper block where you have the Lillinonah Trail
- 1,200-acre lower block where you have the Zoar Trail.
From the title you could tell I was going to do the latter:
Zoar lake is really a reservoir on the Housatonic River formed by Stevenson Dam.
I decided to run my trail clockwise so that most of the climbing would be concentrated in the first two thirds of the hike, leaving the last 2.4 miles as a series of rolling changes in terrain.
Ultimately arrive at the highlight which was Prydden Falls which is a 25-foot multi-tiered plunge into the Housatonic River.
Ultimately that was my run all along the blue blazes with the return path along the waterfront:
Stay tuned for my next posting where I explore some industrial towns further downstream along the Housatonic.
